SAN DIEGO -- Nancy Bidwill, the wife of Arizona Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill, died Wednesday after a long battle with breast cancer, her son and Cardinals president Michael Bidwill announced.She was 84.With sadness, I am passing along the news that my mother has lost her long and valiant battle with breast cancer. She passed away peacefully this morning at home surrounded by close family members, Michael Bidwill said in a statement posted to the teams website. She was blessed with a long life of 84 years, and we were all blessed to know and love her, particularly my dad, to whom she was married for nearly 56 years.Nancy and Bill Bidwill had five children: Michael, Nicole, Bill Jr., Patrick and Tim.The two married on Sept. 1, 1960, in a wedding that was featured in the Chicago Tribune.Nancy was a trustee at the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where Michael received his law degree.The Cardinals have been in the Bidwill family since Charles Bidwill purchased them in 1933. Bill Bidwill took over complete control of the franchise in 1972, a dozen years after it was moved to from Chicago to St. Louis, and in 1988, he relocated the Cardinals to Arizona.In 2007, Michael Bidwill became the team president.
