MILWAUKEE -- Scooter Gennett got some good fortune on the go-ahead hit Tuesday night. And the way he figures it, the Milwaukee Brewers deserved it.Gennett and Jonathan Villar each hit a two-run single in a five-run eighth inning that sent Milwaukee to a 9-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. With the score tied at 4, the Brewers batted around and broke the game open on three hits and four walks against Arizonas bullpen.Hernan Perez singled up the middle off reliever Daniel Hudson (1-2) to start the eighth, and Ryan Braun walked. With one out, Chris Carter walked to load the bases for Gennett, who blooped the tiebreaking single over second base. Its a crazy game, Gennett said. Sometimes you can do everything right and fail. Sometimes you can get jammed by 97 (mph) and everything works out. Its a crazy game and its about time that things start working in our favor, though.Second baseman Phil Gosselin made a diving attempt at the ball, but it just eluded his reach. For a while there, we couldnt catch a break, hitting balls hard right at people in big situations, Gennett said. And now, were getting those hits. Were finding holes. Its been fun, lately. The good times continued for Milwaukee, too.Zac Curtis came on and struck out pinch-hitter Andy Wilkins, but walked Keon Broxton and Kirk Nieuwenhuis to force in another run.The walks are tough to stomach, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. Two-out walks come back to get you.And they did, when Villar followed with a two-run single that capped the rally. We did a nice job tonight with two outs just keeping the line moving, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said after his club won consecutive games for the first time since July 4-5.Milwaukee starter Matt Garza allowed five hits in six innings and left with a 4-3 lead, but Arizona tied it at 4 in the seventh. Michael Bourn singled on a bunt to reliever Will Smith and raced to second on the throwing error to first. Bourn went to third on a groundout before Paul Goldschmidt greeted Tyler Thornburg (4-4) with a run-scoring infield single.Garza hasnt won since beating Washington 6-5 on June 25, a span of five starts.Going into the 8th tied 4-4, I think we felt great about it, Hale said. We had a good part of the order coming up in the top of the ninth. We just need to get there.Milwaukee chased Patrick Corbin in the sixth and went ahead 4-3. Braun singled, extending his hitting streak to 11 games, and Jonathan Lucroy walked. Enrique Burgos came on and got Carter to hit into a double play. Braun scored on Gennetts single off the glove of shortstop Jean Segura. With Corbin throwing so many pitches (40) in the first inning, he did an unbelievable job to get to the sixth, Hale said.Corbin hasnt won since June 21, a stretch of six starts. The Diamondbacks tied it at 3 in the fourth on Bourns fielders choice with the bases loaded.Carter, who got Monday night off to regroup after going 1 for 18, singled in the Brewers first run in the first inning. Jake Elmore added a two-run single.Segura doubled and scored on Goldschmidts single in the first. Welington Castillos ground-rule double drove in Goldschmidt.MILWAUKEE GOLDGoldschmidt is a .433 career hitter (45 for 104) with 13 doubles, eight homers, 24 RBI and 20 walks in 28 games against the Brewers.LAMB OUT OF LINEUPHale kept 3B Jake Lamb (sore left hand) out of the lineup and plans to use him sparingly over the next few days.TRAINERS ROOMDiamondbacks: RHP Zack Greinke threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session. In his absence, Counsell plans to use Perez more at third and less in right field. Perez has appeared in 62 games, including 39 starts (26 at 3B, 13 in RF). His versatility is valuable, Counsell said. Elmore is also in the mix at third.UP NEXTDiamondbacks: RHP Archie Bradley (3-6, 4.44 ERA) faces the Brewers for the first time. He was recalled from Triple-A Reno on May 29.Brewers: RHP Jimmy Nelson (6-8, 3.40) looks to add to his team-leading 11 quality starts when he faces the Diamondbacks for the third time in his career and first this season. And, for three quarters, it showed as Gay shot a woeful three-for-13 from the field. LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Other than the start, Kentucky coach John Calipari had few complaints about the top-ranked Wildcats latest domination featuring more examples of Malik Monks skills.Monk scored a career-high 26 points, DeAaron Fox added 16 and Kentucky routed UT-Martin 111-76 on Friday night, the most points scored in the Calipari Era.The taller Wildcats overcame a slow shooting start and 16-15 deficit to the athletic Skyhawks before rolling to a season-high victory margin. Kentucky (6-0) shot a season-best 55 percent from the field by controlling the paint 54-28 and the boards 48-26, along with recording 24 assists. They got our best today, Calipari said. And the way we moved the ball -- I kind of like coaching against zone and I want my team to feel like if they play zone, thats a good thing. Lets go do this.Monks 10-of-17 shooting led the way with Fox making 7 of 12 from the field. Monk has scored at least 23 points in three of his past four games and this effort featured 10 over a 1:51 stretch in the second half highlighted by back-to-back dunks. He also jumped high to swat a lob pass out of bounds. The Wildcats freshman guard wasnt available afterward, but teammates lobbed plenty of praise at Monk.I would say hes fired up, said senior guard Dominique Hawkins, who had a career-best nine assists along with six points. Hes the most exciting athlete Ive played with on a team. I dont know how he blocked that lob. He just jumped up there, cuffed it and threw it.Monk wasnt the only Wildcat to stand out.Wenyen Gabriel and Bam Adebayo, who had 12 rebounds, each had a career-high 15 points for Kentucky, which won the game that was part of a matchup of unbeaten teams in the four-game Bluegrass Showcase.Matthew Butler scored 15 points and Jacolby Mobley had 14 for UT Martin (5-2), which shot just 33 percent in the second half and 41 percent overall in having its five-game winning streak stopped.THE BIG PICTUREUT Martin: Despite givingg away several inches inside against Kentucky, the Skyhawks quickness helped their zone work early on.dddddddddddd But they soon began sending Kentucky to the free throw line in the first half and were eventually worn down by Kentuckys height and quickness. Their length can be very problematic. It was problematic for us, first-year coach Anthony Stewart said. We thought possibly wed have a chance with our maturity and our older guys against some younger guys. It just didnt work out that way tonight.Kentucky: The Wildcats led by as many as 48 points in the second half en route to their sixth win by at least 21 points, which hasnt been done since the 1947-48 Fabulous Five won their first six games by at least 24. Calipari joked that this team might be the Fabulous Nine but noted that the fast starts depend on the competition. The docket gets much tougher with Arizona State and UCLA next week and rival Louisville ahead in December, so this was the preparation Kentucky needed. Our run of games is going to be coming now, and its how I believe we have to schedule, Calipari added.POLL IMPLICATIONSKentuckys lofty perch appears safe through Mondays next poll but will be tested with back-to-back games against Pac-12 members Arizona State and UCLA.INJURY REPORTSenior Derek Willis played just 8 minutes and Calipari said he sprained his right thumb. Sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe meanwhile missed his second straight game and was scheduled to undergo an MRI after the game on his injured back.UP NEXTUT Martin: Returns home from the three-game road swing to host Florida Atlantic on Tuesday.Kentucky: Faces Arizona State on Monday night in the Atlantis Showcase in the Bahamas.
