So far, the Big Ten coaches who picked new starting quarterbacks this season have had no regrets. The five first-year starters have a combined record of 8-1, three are in charge of teams ranked in the top half of the Top 25 and each is completing at least 60 percent of his passes.Wilton Speight of No. 4 Michigan has the seventh-highest passer rating in the country and a conference-leading seven touchdown passes. Bart Houston of No. 9 Wisconsin overcame a shaky start to help lead the Badgers season-opening upset of LSU. Tyler OConnor of No. 12 Michigan State completed 72 percent of his passes with three TDs against Furman in his only game.Indianas Richard Lagow has yet to throw an interception in two games. Though turnover-prone, Penn States Trace McSorley has shown to be a good fit for his teams new spread offense.A closer look at the new starters:WILTON SPEIGHTOK, Speight was intercepted on his first pass of the season. He hasnt thrown once since and is completing 70 percent of his throws. With 10 pass plays of 20 yards or longer through two games, he has given the Wolverines (2-0) a downfield threat. Hes been sacked just twice.Last Saturday, when Michigan struggled to run against UCF, Speight was 25 of 37 for 312 yards and four touchdowns.Coach Jim Harbaugh said hes been impressed with Speights arm strength and, more recently, the touch hes developed.Hes an ascending player in all regards, Harbaugh said. The good thing about Wilton has been that his improvements have stuck. Once he takes a step forward or two steps forward, you dont see the step back.BART HOUSTONWisconsin fans were a bit worried during the opener against LSU. Houston threw a horrid interception into triple coverage and had another pass picked off and returned for a touchdown. But with the Badgers (2-0) down 14-13 in the fourth quarter, Houston completed all three of his passes on the drive that set up their winning field goal. The 23-year-old Houston has thrown no interceptions since, and he was extremely sharp in the Badgers easy win over Akron last week.Im proud of the way he competes and approaches every day with a sense of urgency, coach Paul Chryst said. I felt hes certainly made some good throws and plays for us. Also, I thought hes handled it when it hasnt gone well. There are a lot of things and areas we can work on and need to improve, but I love his approach.TYLER OCONNORThe play-calling was limited when OConnor helped lead Michigan State to its upset of Ohio State in Columbus in his only start last year, and the full breadth of the offense wasnt on display when he went 13 of 18 for 190 yards and three TDs in the 28-13 win over FCS Furman in the opener.Saturdays game at No. 18 Notre Dame will be a better gauge. OConnors experience at Ohio State last year should help.Hes going to have another opportunity to grow this Saturday night, coach Mark Dantonio said.RICHARD LAGOWThe junior-college transfer is third in the Big Ten with 253 yards passing per game, and hes hitting 64 percent with no turnovers. He completed his first six passes and finished 17 of 27 for 266 yards and three TDs as Indiana (2-0) beat Ball State 30-20 last week. Through two games he has nine pass plays of 20 yards or longer, including a 79-yarder for a TD against Ball State. For sure hes met our expectations, coach Kevin Wilson said. Hes had very few decisions that have been questioned as far as, `Why are you going there forcing the ball? I dont know if hes exceeded expectations, but hes played really good out of the gate.TRACE MCSORLEYMcSorleys has decent passing numbers for Penn State (1-1) -- a 61-percent completion rate, 271 yards a game, three touchdowns, one interception. His biggest issue is fumbles. In the 33-13 win over Kent State, one of was returned for a touchdown. In the 42-39 loss at Pittsburgh, two of his fumbles led to Panthers touchdowns.Coach James Franklin said McSorley has managed the games well and has mostly made good decisions. The area we have to get better is securing the ball as a ball-carrier or getting hit in the pocket, Franklin said. Too many balls on the ground. Thats the main thrust for us. First two starts, hes done some nice things.---Online:AP college football website: http://collegefootball.ap.orgKenta Maeda Youth Jersey . There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me. Thierry Henry believes nerves will play a huge part in determining the result of an enthralling Premier League title race. Claudio Ranieris side, who currently lead the way by five points with four games left to play, face Swansea at the King Power Stadium on Super Sunday before Spurs host West Brom a day later on Monday Night Football.Leicester need eight points from their final four games to guarantee the title, and Henry says they will be desperate to secure them as soon as possible. If youre ahead you just want to make sure you can kill the title way before the end, Henry told Sky Sports Now. When I was there to do Leicester v West Ham (last Sunday) I said: Make sure you dont let the teams behind you hope.Thats what they have (given) to Tottenham, who went to Stoke and it could have been seven, eight or 9-0. They played ever so well because they knew they could get two points back on Leicester and they did it.Now, suddenly the pressure is on and you saw that a bit more with Leicester, arguing every decision, surrounding the referee and not being happy with the sending off of (Jamie) Vardy.During the season they were a bit more composed with that, they were less argumentative so, as we all know, when things arent going your way and youre losing points the nerves come along. Leicester slipped up last week against West Ham to let Tottenham back into the title race And Henry, who won two Premier League titles with Arsenal, believes Leicester need to stick together if they are to get over the line.It is a team effort all the way until the end, said Henry. People are going to come along and talk about what you do or how youre doing it well or not, so make sure you stay within that frame.Dont let the train derail, go for the title and look forward, forward is the trophy and thats the only thing that should be in your head.Whats difficult is when youre at the top everybody wants to kill you, so when you play games everybody wants to beat you. How do you deal with having to play against a team that actually wants to kill you every single time? They might not play the same way against other teams, but when they playing you they want to kill you, and thats what I found difficult, whatever league youre playing in.Top scoorer Vardy will miss the visit of Swansea on Sunday, and could miss an extra game through suspension following his red card against West Ham last week.dddddddddddd And Henry believes his absence is a major blow at this stage Jamie Vardy (L) will be suspended for at least the next game for Leicester Vardy missing is going to be key, said Henry. We know (Shinji) Okazaki can come up with the odd goal, as can Wes Morgan, (Robert) Huth and (Riyad) Mahrez, but they need Vardy right now in the key moment of the season.Suddenly Swansea might be a game where, because of the nerves, you dont know what can happen. I said last Sunday Leicester must make sure they have enough points before going into the last run of Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea. You dont want to go into that run only three points ahead. The nerves I saw (against West Ham) I didnt see before.Tottenhams next game after West Brom is a trip to Chelsea on Monday night, and Henry reckons the rivalry between the teams will create a stern challenge for Mauricio Pochettinos side. Tottenham are now just five points behind Leicester For Tottenham the Chelsea game is key, Henry said. If they win at Stamford Bridge then its game on, because I dont see them then losing other games. But Chelsea are going to try and play really hard against Tottenham. Henry also claims that, even if Leicester dont go on to win the Premier League title, its still been a remarkable achievement from their side. What (Leicester are) doing is giving everyone hope that its not about money, he said. Its not about having the best players in the world. Its about having a good team and commitment. No one can every say anymore you cant do it if you dont have resources. It would be a great story if they win it but, for me, its already a great story.
