DEL MAR, Calif. -- The maiden Champagne Room displayed experience befitting a veteran in Saturdays $200,000 Sorrento Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar.In her second start, Champagne Room ($4.60) closed from third in a field of five to win the Grade 2 race at 6-1/2 furlongs by 1-1/4 lengths as the favorite. The victory puts Champagne Room on course for the $300,000 Del Mar Debutante on Sept. 3. The Grade 1 Debutante is the championship race of the meeting for 2-year-old fillies. There was a bit of a gamble involved in the decision to start Champagne Room in the Sorrento. Champagne Room was supplemented to the race for $2,000 on Wednesday. She races for the partnership that includes Joe Ciagloa, Exline-Border Racing, and Sharon Alesia. We decided to come here and it was a good decision, trainer Peter Eurton said.Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Champagne Room was timed in 1:16.35. She stalked pacesetter Miss Southern Miss through early fractions of 22.63 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45 for a half-mile before engaging the leader in the final furlong.Quickly, Champagne Room was in control of the race.I like the way she got away, Eurton said. I like the way she tracked. When she made the move in the middle of the turn, I was confident.Miss Southern Miss, second in the Landaluce Stakes at Santa Anita on July 9, held second, finishing 4-1/2 lengths in front of Auntjenn, who was followed by Rooms and Unforgivable U. Ciao Bella Rosa, a maiden who was also supplemented, was scratched on Saturday morning.Miss Southern Miss is another candidate for the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs. Trainer Keith Desormeaux said the filly is still learning how to rate after three starts.I can see that her stride is not as fluid as it should be, Desormeaux said. Shes so worried about going fast. We can teach her to relax and well see the real Miss Southern Miss.Champagne Room, by Broken Vow, was second in a five-furlong maiden race here on July 16 in her debut. She was purchased for $310,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sale of 2-year-olds in-training sale in April in Florida.Champagne Room has earned $132,600.Bob Cousy Jersey . We care about that and we worry about it as well because its a fight. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he is worried about missing out finishing in the top four after their goalless draw against Sunderland. There are two leagues at the moment: the teams who are taking it a little bit easier - you see some games and you think you would like to play them now, the teams who are safe and are not going for Europe, and then you have the teams who are going for something at the front and the teams who are fighting not to go down, and they are different games. It is frustrating because we play to win the title and the fact that we do not win it is of course frustrating, like it is for many other teams.Arsenal dominated large parts of the game, but couldnt break down a resilient Sunderland side who are fighting for survival.I thought we played well in the first half, played with good domination and created some chances, but unfortunately we didnt take them and in this kind of game you have to [get] in front, Wenger told Sky Sports. Wenger looks on during the game at the Stadium of Light They defennded well in fairness and overall it was a very tight game in the second half.dddddddddddd I believe we had enough chances to win the game but not enough to score today. Its not a result we want, we wanted to win the game but we have to deal with that and focus on the next one, thats all we can do.We have to be more clinical with what we create, the final ball maybe wasnt quick enough at times and our finishing was not the best today. Wilshere set for Euros? Can Jack Wilshere make Englands Euro 2016 squad? Wenger also offered his support to striker Olivier Giroud, who is now without a Premier League goal in 14 games after another frustrating afternoon at the Stadium of Light. In the second half he got stronger, but the team go less forward to him, said Wenger. At the moment we have to support him, strikers live on confidence and the confidence we show in him as well. Jack Wilshere says it felt great to be back on the pitch during Sundays game Both sides had penalty shouts late on in the first half for apparent handballs, but Wenger dismissed the notion that either team should have been awarded a spot-kick.He said: For me none of them were penalties, because it was not deliberate handball. The guy was close to the guy taking the shot and Im against these kind of penalties. Also See:Sunderland out of bottom threeWilshere makes returnSunderland 0-0 Arsenal recapOzil breaks chances record ' ' '
