Australia face South Africa in the first of three T20Is live on Sky Sports on Friday ahead of the ICC World Twenty20. The tourists lost their latest T20I series 3-0 to India in January with 19 players selected as they tussled over what team to pick. With the squad now settled, we asked Mr Cricket Mike Hussey for his thoughts on how the squad is shaping up…Do Australia know what their best top-order line-up is?Mike says: The selectors have some tough decisions to make because its a pretty powerful squad. Shane Watson, Aaron Finch, David Warner and Usman Khawaja have all done really well. There has been talk of Warner dropping down to three, which would leave Watson and Khawaja battling it out with Finch for one of the opening spots. Both Watson and Khawaja were with me at Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash. Watto is in a really nice head space at the moment, not taking the game as seriously as he perhaps once did, and he benefitted from working with Jacques Kallis on his batting in the Big Bash. When he is on fire he is a very difficult man to stop, and he has got such clarity in his game right now, it makes him a dangerous proposition.I must admit that I didnt think Khawaja would bat as well as he did (two hundreds in four innings with a 172.50 average and 163.50 strike rate). I always knew he was a fantastic player but his recent form has blown everyone away. He doesnt slog it, just plays really good cricket shots off front and back foot. He is a very relaxed character and certainly the big stage will not faze him; hes a phenomenal player. Will either South Africa or Australia walk away with the trophy? How crucial could the teams all-round depth be?Mike says: The all-rounders are the teams real strength. Watson is good enough to be a top-four batsman but he was also bowling really well for me at the Thunder. Mitch Marsh is a power-hitter through the middle, and is also bowling really well. Then theres also James Faulkner, who has been shining in T20 cricket for some time now; hes a big hitter with the bat, and a terrific death bowler with a lot of change-ups.Ive weighed it up a little bit in my head and I can see all of them playing, especially if Watson ends up batting at the top. Thats a bonus because it frees up space for the others down the order. Nathan Coulter-Nile is in the squad and could theoretically fight with Faulkner for a spot. He is probably a better bowler, but not as strong with the bat, so it depends on the balance of the side they want to go with. It certainly gives Steve Smith a lot of options. Kumar Sangakkara gives a brief history of the ICC T20 World Cup How strong is the attack?Mike says: Its a real shame Mitchell Starc is not available through injury. Thats a huge miss for the Australian team. I look at the attack and there does look to be a lack of experience there, but there is still an awful lot of skill and quality there too. They just need to handle the situation, and the pressure as well as they possibly can.In the recent game against India at the SCG, Andrew Tye bowled the last over and didnt bowl as well as he could have and India won the game, but he is honestly one of the best death bowlers in Australia. He has a brilliant slower ball, and not many players from around the world will have seen much of him, and so he could end up getting a lot of wickets.Im pretty confident Adam Zampa, the leggy, will play. He has bowled really well in the Big Bash for quite a few years now and so probably deserves the chance over Ashton Agar as the spinner in the side, backed up by Glenn Maxwell and Smith for the odd over here and there. Wrist spinners tend to take a lot of wickets in T20 cricket so that variety Zampa brings will be important.Watch South Africa take on Australia in a three-match Twenty20 series, starting with the first T20I at 3.55pm this Friday on Sky Sports 3.
