BUFFALO, N.Y. -- At a time when the Buffalo Sabres are dealing with a series of season-opening injuries, general manager Tim Murray can at least take comfort in knowing he has earned some job security.Entering the final year of his contract, Murray signed a multiyear extension Thursday about an hour before Buffalo opened the season hosting the Montreal Canadiens.I guess its a vote of confidence when you can get a deal done and dont have to wait until June 30, Murray said during the first intermission. I wasnt printing out any resumes or anything like that but, no, it feels good and it was a pretty simple process. The contract extension comes at a time when Murray is completing a near top-to-bottom overhaul of the roster he began upon taking over in January, 2014.In that time, Murray has purged much of the teams high-priced and aging talent and rebuilt the roster through the draft and trades. The process hasnt been an easy one since Murray replaced Darcy Regier. After finishing last in 2013-14 and 2014-15, the Sabres jumped to 23rd in the NHL standings last season with a 35-36-11 record.Though expectations were high entering this season, theyve since been tempered as a result of a rash of injuries.Top-line center Jack Eichel will miss at least a month after spraining his left ankle in practice on Wednesday. Buffalo also opened the season minus Murrays two top offseason additions: forward Kyle Okposo (knee) and defenseman Dmitry Kulikov (bruised backside). Both are listed as day to day, with Okposo expected to play as early as Sunday, when the Sabres open a four-game road trip at Edmonton.Okposo signed a six-year deal in free agency in July, while the Sabres acquired Kulikov in a trade with Florida in June.Murray said hes going to remain patient and see if the team can jell minus Eichel, who led Buffalo with 24 goals and was tied for the Sabres lead with eight power-play goals and five game-winners.Jack is not a replaceable player, so we have to try this internally, Murray said. Well try some guys here and see how it goes. If its clearly not going to work, then Ill have to get on the phone and make some calls. Salomon Shoes Clearance Australia . MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Reviews on the weather were mixed Sunday at the Miami Dolphins-Arizona Cardinals game.Every time we got the ball it seemed like it was pouring, like a monsoon, Cardinals receiver J.J. Nelson said. Ive never played in anything like that.Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry found the rain fun. When you think about football, you dream about this type of game, he said.Guess which team won.Frequent heavy showers made for a sloppy game, and the Cardinals were unable to overcome four turnovers in the first 20 minutes, losing 26-23 .Carson Palmer threw two interceptions and lost a fumble when he bobbled a snap . David Johnson also lost a fumble. A slick ball contributed to all four giveaways by a team accustomed to desert conditions, not monsoons. We practiced with a wet ball on Wednesday and didnt have any problems, Arizona coach Bruce Arians said. But when it continually pours when you have the ball, which was kind of odd, its tough.Palmer agreed the timing on the passing showers was weird.Every time we had the ball, it just started turning on and staying on, Palmer said. Then it would stop.Turnovers are a big reason the Cardinals (5-7-1) will likely sit out the playoffs. They have 26 turnovers this year, two more than in 2015, when they went 13--3.ddddddddddddRoad missteps have been a chronic problem too. Arizona is 1-5 away from home, including 0-4 in games in the Eastern time zone. Last season the Cardinals went 8-1 away from home.In Miami, turnovers were far from the only issue. Palmer threw for only 145 yards. Larry Fitzgerald had just 12 yards receiving. Johnson, who came into the game leading the NFL in touchdowns, was kept out of the end zone.Chander Catanzaro missed a field-goal attempt and two extra points, with one blocked PAT returned for a 2-point conversion by Walt Aikens , who didnt mind the weather a bit. What weather? Aikens said. Football weather. Perfect. Not so much for the offense, but for the defense. Reminds me of my childhood. The blocked kick and Aikens score with 7:05 left represented a three-point swing, which turned out to be the difference in the game.So it has gone in 2016 for the Cardinals. The ball, Palmer said, has not bounced our way once.---For more NFL coverage: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Steven Wine on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Steve-Wine.
