Two former teammates who will lock horns in Saturday nights All-Stars game are both still pinching themselves ahead of the first season of the AFLs national womens league.Western Bulldogs midfielder Ellie Blackburn and Melbourne defender Melissa Hickey, both marquee signings, have this week been in camp with their respective squads gearing up for Saturdays clash at Whitten Oval.Blackburn, who had previously played for the Demons in exhibition games, said it would be a little strange playing against her old teammates, but was looking forward to the contest featuring some of the best female talent from around Australia. It will definitely be different playing for the Bulldogs instead of Melbourne, but for me its the start of something new and Im so excited to be playing for the Dogs, the 21-year-old told ESPN.It will be a chance to showcase womens footy at the highest level; there are so many talented footballers playing this weekend and we can all come together and play a really great standard of football. The nationally-televised contest will feature players who will likely be early selections in next months inaugural AFL womens draft.Teams will be 16-a-side, with six interchange players, while the ball is slightly smaller than the one used in previous exhibition contests. The changes have been made with the aim of reducing congestion and increasing scoring.Hickey said she was proud to again be running out for Melbourne, adding the club had fully committed to embracing the womens game.Im really lucky to be playing for the Dees ... Ive been around the club for three years now and I feel were part of the culture and theyve really welcomed us into the inner sanctum, she told ESPN.[Theres] been nothing but genuine support and buy-in from the whole club and the players, whenever we come to the club. Its really special to continue that journey with them. I was absolutely thrilled when it was announced I could join them [as a marquee player].Ive been part of the Demons since 2013, with the exhibition series, and played every game with them ... Saturday should be an even better standard [than previous games].Here in Victoria weve had 12 months of improvement and it [the standard] has increased here, and Im sure the same is happening in the other states ... its probably not ideal the amount of time we get to train together to develop understanding of how each other plays, the game style and structure, but the 16-a-side [match] should be a very free-flowing and high-scoring game, so hopefully its a great spectacle and a great display of womens footy.Hickey, 31, knows she is nearer to the end of her career than the start of it, but said she was so thankful the womens league was being introduced before she hung up her boots. Its amazing - I have to keep pinching myself, its a dream come true to be able to play in the league next year, she said. I think they initially started talking about 2020 as a date when it could start so I was concerned thatd be at the very end of my career; so when it was announced for next year, I was rapt.Im 31 but Im feeling the fittest Ive ever felt, so Im not too concerned about it; hopefully Ive got a few good years still left in me.Blackburn is at the other end of the spectrum, and could potentially forge a decade-long career at the highest level.Me coming into it at the age I am now is really beneficial and Im really fortunate that weve now got access to a womens league; Im only 21 and hopefully I can stick around for the next decade and play some really good footy, she said. While they will be on opposing sides come Saturday, the duo is on the same page when it comes to the importance of the leagues introduction. From a young age I used to joke around with my mates that I was going to be one of the first females to play AFL and to think back, it was literally a joke because we never thought it would happen. But when the AFL announced theyd set up a national womens league in 2017, it was overwhelming and it took my breath away, Blackburn said.Since then, theres been so much build-up and hype around it - its been amazing and the response has been truly wonderful. Theres so much excitement, all the girls are constantly talking about it, always using the hashtag #journeyto2017 - its always in our thoughts. Its something thats going to be great for the sport itself and for womens sport. As a young girl growing up, my idols were all male footballers and now, they [younger women] can look up and see someone they want to aspire to be, Hickey said. We get to go out to schools and a lot of the kids look up at you and say they play and love footy ... its very powerful to have female role models. Joe Smith Jersey . Ancelotti says Ronaldo has recovered from a hamstring injury but "but he doesnt feel comfortable yet so we wont risk him." Madrid is third in the Spanish league, six points behind leader Barcelona, going into Saturdays game against Valladolid. Jarrett Culver Jersey . The defending champion beat Gael Monfils of France 7-6 (6), 6-3, while second-seeded Andy Murray of Britain dispatched Edouard Roger-Vasselin, also of France, 6-3, 6-3. Making his first appearance since injuring his wrist a month ago, Del Potro had difficulty with his service games in the first set. Kevin Garnett Jersey . There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me. Tyson Fury failed to turn up for a news conference to publicise his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, but promoters Frank Warren and Mick Hennessy insist the fight will happen.Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) was stuck in traffic on the M6 motorway on his way to the conference in London, but Warren says the WBA-WBO world heavyweight champions return fight with Klitschko is going ahead as planned at the Manchester Arena on Oct. 29.All we know at this stage, and his phone battery has gone, is that he has had problems with traffic and his car has broken down, Warren said. This fight is going ahead despite some of the rumours around it.Warren also insisted the prospect of a National Anti-Doping Panel hearing about alleged doping violations by Fury will not threaten the fight.UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) agency revealed a month ago that it had charged Fury and cousin Hughie Fury for using a banned substance on June 24. Fury and fellow heavyweight Hughie strongly deny the allegations. The head of the tribunal Mr [Charles] Flint has ruled the fight will go ahead, said Warren, who also revealed he will be holding talks with Tom Loeffler, of K2 Promotions, about Briton Billy Joe Saunders fighting world middleweight No 1 Gennady Golovkin. There are no problems with UKAD or drugs. Mr Flint said on Friday that the fight will go ahead and the hearing will be after so it will not interfere with it.The fight is all signed and there [are] no problems. The only problem we have is his car breaking down today. Ill get him on my motorbike if it breaks down again on the night of the fight.Furys promoter Hennessy also down-played Furys absence. This is the first press conference Tyson has ever missed, this is not the norm and we are not making it up, said Hennessy.Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs), 40, claiims he was not losing patience with Fury, who pulled out of meeting the former champion on July 9 because he injured an ankle while running.ddddddddddddMorecambe-based Fury pulled off a big shock when he out-pointed Klitschko to lift the WBA, WBO and IBF world titles in Germany in November after the Ukrainian had reigned as world champion for nearly a decade.I wont be surprised if something else happens, Im prepared for anything to achieve my goal and Im obsessed by that, said Klitschko. But eventually we will meet in the ring. The fight is going to come up for real and if its not going to happen in October I will wait. I may be 41 then but I will wait if it gets put back to March or something. Eventually time will run out for the champion because he will need to defend the titles.I understand that Fury is not here right now. I understand the postponement because Ive had injuries myself and I really look forward to revenge.Furys uncle and trainer Peter Fury did make it to the news conference and warned Klitschko he will have to go through a radical change if he is to win back his belts.Last time we didnt get an exciting fight, it was more of a chess match, but this time Wladimir knows he has to do something different to get his belts back and it makes for a mouth-watering fight, said Fury. There has been a lot of ups and down to get this fight on. I want to prove who the real Tyson Fury is: one of the best fighters in the world and I want him to prove his legacy in boxing. There has been chaos around this fight. UKAD have been leaking things out to the press.Tyson is very upset at how he has been treated by the British public. ' ' '
