New Zealand did not bowl as well as they should have with the second new ball on day three in Bulawayo, according to their bowling coach Shane Jurgensen, but, he insists, they are still in with a good chance of closing out the Test. There is still a long way to go in the match, Jurgensen said after day three, which Zimbabwe ended on 305 for 6, 78 short of avoiding the follow-on. We did that quite well up until the start of the second new ball. We didnt bowl as well as we wanted to with the second new ball. Weve got to work hard and keep toiling away. [But] its only day three and weve got the runs on the board and we have a lot of time in the game. Were down the bottom end of their innings, and there were signs today that there is bit more spin. When Kane Williamson called for the second new ball at the start of the 85th over, Zimbabwe were 166 for 5, with Craig Ervine on 46 and Peter Moor on 8; Ervine went on to record a maiden Test ton and finish the day unbeaten, while Moor added 63 more runs to his tally before finally being removed by legspinner Ish Sodhi.Sodhi claimed two wickets on the day, as did the other slow man, left-armer Mitchell Santner. The faster men enjoyed less success: after effecting the first breakthrough - bowling Tino Mawoyo - Tim Southee could not add to his tally, while Trent Boult went wicketless on the day.Jurgensen, though, felt both the quicks threatened promisingly. Were very impressed [with Boult], he said. He has improved with every ball he has bowled. He has a lot more confidence, really hitting the wicket hard. He has been quite unlucky, bowled really well and missed out.Thats what happens on these wickets. Sometimes the bowler who hasnt quite bowled exactly where he wanted to be, gets more wickets. Tim has worked really hard coming to Zimbabwe. He has looked threatening. Happy with his pace. Really good bounce too, which is what he has been working on.Jurgensen remained non-committal when asked whether New Zealand would enforce the follow-on should they get the chance to do so. It will depend on how it goes first thing in the morning, he said. We cant look too far ahead. You see it every single night, and you try to tell your guys over and over again, and sometimes just feeling it is a nice wake up call.Rob Ukawuba led the Highlanders (5-5) with 18 points. NJIT committed just seven turnovers but shot 34.2 percent from the field and was 8 of 32 from 3.Were a program thats on the rise and were past moral victories, to be honest with you, Highlanders coach Brian Kennedy said. This is a game that hurts a lot to lose because we felt if we played the way we know were capable of playing, it was going to be a good game.BIG PICTURENJIT: The Highlanders continued to show they can hang with the Big Ten. Two years ago on the same day, NJIT went on the road and beat No. 17 Michigan. He had scored at least 20 in six of the teams first nine games.Mason took the brunt of the defensive responsibility and helped hold Lynn to 12 points on 5-of-24 shooting.Never really let him get an open look the whole night, Kennedy said of Mason. Damons had a great, great career for us. I wouldnt trade that kid for anybody in the country. He just had an off night shooting tonight.HE SAID ITI think tomorrows really going to help the team; seeing how we respond, seeing if were hungry, Springs said. We got hit in the mouth and its good for us. I think tomorrow is whats really going to see if we respond the way we should respond. If we come in hungry, and like coach says, if we work.UP NEXTNJIT: A road-heavy month continues for the Highlanders, who play at Kent State on Dec. 10. NJIT has just one home game in the month of December.Minnesota: Tuesdays game was the start of five straight nonconference games at home before the Gophers open the Big Ten at home against Michigan State.
